Maxim Lobovsky
Co-Founder and CEO of Formlabs
Maxim Lobovsky launched a successful career as an entrepreneur and startup founder by age 25. As a Program in Media Arts and Sciences master’s student at MIT’s Media Lab, Lobovsky enjoyed access to three-dimensional printers to create necessary components for his projects, designed and printed to spec. Lobovsky could see the potential applications of 3D printing for designers, architects, engineers, and other small businesses;however, the machines he used were prohibitively expensive. After graduating, Lobovsky worked with two of his friends to create the first small-scale, affordable 3D printer for “prosumers,” or professional consumers, and thus was born his startup, Formlabs. Once they had a prototype, called the Form 1, Lobovsky and Formlabs’ co-founders began a Kickstarter campaign, using the power of crowdsourced funding to finance the production of commercial models. Formlabs raised more than $1 million in a week, and nearly $3 million overall—30 times their original fundraising goal. The Form 1 is compatible with CAD software, and uses stereolithography technology to print layers as thin as .001 inches.

The 2015 “Face of 3D Printing” by D-Business magazine. Mike studied entrepreneurship and interactive media at DePaul University from 2010-2013. He entered the 3D printing industry during his sophomore year in 2011 when he built his first machine and interned with MakerBot. Mike became an influential member of the DIY 3D printing community online and in Chicago with many of his projects such as establishing a standardized process from 3D scanning to printing and being featured in world renowned exhibitions including the Inside 3D Printing Conference in Chicago and New York. He later co-founded the world’s first 3D printing retail and service bureau hybrid in April 2013 in downtown Chicago (3DPX). In early 2014, he moved back to Detroit to start Manulith and MakerOS. Within one year, he grew Manulith into being the premier 3D printing service provider in Detroit with MakerOS as its backbone. Mike’s mission is now to implement MakerOS to become the standard system in which advanced manufacturers operate so that they may benefit the same as Manulith has. Mike has been featured in national and international publications such as MSN, Make Magazine, Central Chinese Television Network, CBS, and the Encyclopedia Britannica. Recently, Mike was named the 2015 “Face of 3D Printing” by D-Business magazine.

Jordan Schindler
Founder & CEO of Nufabrx
I founded texdel (formerly Nufabrx) in 2011 after a trip to the dermatologist where I learned that pillowcases are one of the leading causes of acne/blemishes, and we are supposed to wash our pillowcases every 2 to 3 days. For teens and college students, this is not going to happen! So off I went to find a solution. After years of R&D, fine tuning and teaming up with a brilliant PhD formulation scientist from Minneapolis, we developed four patent-pending “platform” technologies that enable the secure and controlled delivery of “Active” ingredients via yarn to the skin over an extended period of time, and through hundreds of laundering cycles. Textile yarns can now be enhanced to provide the wearer performance improving, healing, and aesthetic capabilities. Textile-Based Delivery is proud to partner with one of the most innovative and proven yarn manufacturers in America. Together we have developed the processes to rapidly and reliably produce Active-enabled yarn for use by your preferred manufacturers.

Matthew Petros
Co-founder & CEO & President of 3DEO
I co-founded 3DEO to help companies launch better products, faster – and Reimagine Manufacturing® with 3D printing.
Traditional manufacturing comes with design limitations, high up-front costs, unexpected risks and long lead times, pain points that can be solved by additive manufacturing. But the reality is that the actual 3D printing is just one small piece of the puzzle. To move beyond delivering prototype parts to full end-to-end parts production, we must include innovations across the entire production system–printing, robotics, augmented reality, advanced data systems, and a platform that manages from design through to finished product. That’s why we created 3DEO’s Manufacturing Cloud™.
This tightly integrated system is stitched together by software that collects real-time image data from machines, programs the robotics, manages AI integrations, and creates closed loop feedback to enable automation at scale. With the Manufacturing Cloud™, we aim to give product innovators superpowers to launch physical products at the speed of software.
I first started my work in the field of advanced manufacturing technologies and additive manufacturing while pursuing my PhD at University of Southern California. During the course of my doctoral studies, I co-invented and designed numerous metal additive manufacturing, including binder jetting processes, and worked hand-in-hand with various Fortune 500 companies to help develop high-impact 3D printing solutions using the latest technologies. It was this doctoral work that reinforced my suspicion that the majority of industries were not able to transition metal 3D printing to end-use applications. And so came the inspiration for 3DEO – established in an effort to empower our industrial partners through opportunistic technology transitions.

Nels Long
Founder/CEO of Second Studio
Nels is fascinated by the relationship between architecture and the virtual environment. This fascination has driven him to develop projects and applications with the intent of understanding specific aspects of this relationship, such as physical objects that contain virtual information, virtual spaces designed to mitigate psychological conditions, and introducing game logic and play into contemporary design workflows. Nels has been a member of the discussion surrounding virtual reality and architecture since before the first developer kits began arriving in 2009. Since then he is credited with introducing virtual reality to SCI-Arc where he developed a workflow that focuses heavily on simulation, big data and play. Using these insights Nels has placed in several international design challenges including Tex-Fab “Plasticity” which looked at the use of realtime fabric modeling and composites in architecture.
