Alex McCauley
CEO of StartupAUS
Alex is Executive Director and CEO of StartupAUS. He has previously worked as a lawyer, a diplomat for Australia’s foreign service, and a startup founder. Having spent three years as an Australian diplomat in Tel Aviv, Alex came home to Sydney and started a tech company in 2015. Later that year he joined StartupAUS as Head of Strategy and Advocacy. He was responsible for developing StartupAUS’ extensive contribution to the Federal Government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda. Alex was appointed StartupAUS’s first full-time CEO in February 2016 and has grown the organisation rapidly since. During his time in Israel, Alex led the Australian Embassy’s strategy and analysis on regional security issues, as well as entrepreneurship & innovation policy. Alex has qualifications in law, political science, and economics from the University of Sydney.

Bronwyn Evans

In October 2013 Dr Bronwyn Evans took on the role as CEO Standards Australia. She has over 30 years experience as an engineering executive in the areas of power generation, engineering education, Standards creation and medical devices. She is the Chair of the Industry Growth Centre for Medical Technologies and Pharmaceuticals and Chair of the Advisory Board for Robogals. In 2011 Bronwyn joined The Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering as a director and member of the Centre’s Audit, Risk and Remuneration Committee. Dr Evans has previously held positions as an independent non-executive director of John Holland Limited, Chair of the Medical Technology Association of Australia Board and Chair of the National Board of the Centre for Engineering Leadership and Management. Bronwyn is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, an Honorary Fellow of University of Wollongong. In 2013 was named the EA Sydney Division Professional Engineer of the Year and in 2014 was recognised as one of Australia’s 100 most influential engineers. Dr Evans has a BE (Elec) and PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Wollongong in the field of industrial automation, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

I then focussed on growing 2 start-ups which have become big names at Shazam and lastminute.com. More recently my roles have been international with companies going through significant change: RIM/BlackBerry, BP/Castrol and Philips. As Chief Digital Officer at SCA, I have been driving the digital transformation agenda for the past 12 months. We have enabled digital functions in both the content and sales teams. I have built a product function focused on digital audio (ie., streaming and podcasting), video, social media all on mobile. I have also started a new data function. David Ball

David Ball has 25 years of experience in the telecommunications, media and technology sectors with a significant portion of his career specialising in satellite communications. David has held senior positions encompassing sales leadership, business development, engineering and space systems development. Prior to joining SERC, David was an Executive Consultant with Envista Pty Ltd supporting several defence communications projects. Until July 2015, David was the Chief Technology Officer for NewSat Limited and was responsible for all technical matters relating to the Jabiru Satellite Program. Prior to joining NewSat in early 2011, David was the Regional Vice President Asia-Pacific for Intelsat and also held that position for PanAmSat prior to the merger between PanAmSat and Intelsat in 2006. David also filled a variety of sales, customer engineering and product management roles for PanAmSat. David served as a commissioned officer in the Royal Australian Air Force specializing in fixed, tactical and mobile communications systems management before joining PanAmSat in 1995. David holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Communications Engineering) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and a Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Deakin University.
