North Side is Eugene’s second entrepreneurial venture focused on the human-computer interface. Eugene founded Virtual Prototypes (now Presagis at www.presagis.com ) in 1985, where he invented VAPS, which changed the way industry designs real-time displays used in airplanes, cars, and ground stations. VAPS has become the de facto standard in aerospace for avionics display design and automated generation of validated, flight-qualified display source code. Eugene also initiated the development of flexible flight simulation and war-gaming tools. On April 21, 1999 Eugene was inducted into the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum AW&ST Laureate Hall of Fame as the 1999 Electronics Laureate, for causing a paradigm shift in display development and simulation in aerospace.
