Tim Ellis
Co-founder & CEO of Relativity Space
Tim is the Co-founder and CEO of Relativity Space, the first autonomous rocket factory and launch services leader for satellite constellations. Disrupting 60 years of global aerospace manufacturing, Relativity is developing the first and only aerospace platform to integrate machine learning, software, and robotics with metal 3D printing technology to build and launch rockets and other aerospace products in days instead of years, with the long-term goal of building the future of humanity in space. Since cofounding Relativity, Tim has helped change the future of space exploration by expanding the possibilities of additive metal manufacturing. Under his leadership, Relativity developed the largest robotic metal 3D printer in the world and tested its entirely 3D printed Aeon rocket engine over 190 times, on track to launching Relativity’s Terran 1, the world’s first 3D printed launch vehicle. Terran 1 has won publicly announced launch contracts to support Iridium, Telesat, Spaceflight Industries, Momentus, Mu Space. Tim played a leading role in closing hundreds of millions of dollars in partnership with the U.S. Government, including securing the first-ever US Air Force launch site award to a venture backed company at Cape Canaveral, and exclusive 20-year agreements for multiple test sites and a 220,000-square-foot factory at NASA Stennis Space Center. Prior to Relativity, Tim was responsible for bringing metal 3D printing in-house at Blue Origin and served as a Propulsion Development Engineer on Crew Capsule RCS thrusters, BE-4, and New Glenn. He holds an MS and a BS in Aerospace Engineering from USC, where he played a leadership role in launching the first student-designed and built rocket into space. Tim has testified to the U.S. Senate on commercial space policy and is the youngest member on the National Space Council Users Advisory Group by nearly two decades, directly advising the United States White House on all space policy. He also serves on the World Economic Forum as a Technology Pioneer, and has been honored as an MIT 35 Innovators Under 35 and “30 Under 30” from Business Insider, Forbes, and Inc. Magazine. Relativity is backed by Playground Global, Social Capital, Y Combinator, Mark Cuban, USC, and Stanford.

Andrew R. Gibson
President & CEO of Empirical Systems Aerospace
Mr. Gibson is currently President of Empirical Systems Aerospace and is responsible for business development, overall program management, and various technical tasks. He has nine years of experience in the construction and management of design, technology demonstrator and prototype programs. Since co-founding ESAero in 2003, his work experience includes design, systems integration, and testing on a diverse number of programs. He has been involved with ESTOL/CESTOL or other improved field performance aircraft for 12 years, mainly with NASA Ames Research Center. This work culminated with two SBIR awards, one of which he was the Principal Investigator, 2009, for which he led and managed a multidiscipline team to design two aircrafts powered by cryogenically-cooled superconducting turboelectric distributed propulsion systems. The second SBIR, for which he was Co-Investigator, focused specifically on the design of the internal split-wing propulsion components. Both Phase I SBIRs were successful, on time, on budget, and the COTR and NASA felt they received a great value. This work was so successful, ESAero was approached by NASA for additional work in this area, which led ESAero to become a leader in TurboElectric Distributed Propulsion (TeDP) Aircraft. Additionally, he reverse engineered the entire 747-200F fuselage (from 1969 hand drawings) to calculate stiffness and obtain mass properties data in support of Evergreen Aviation. Leveraged off of the NASA SBIR efforts, Mr. Gibson has been leading electric hybrid aircraft integration and design work for General Atomics, electric hybrid helicopter design and analysis work for Electricore, Inc., and payload performance and integration on the Global Observer for Aerovironment. He is also currently working with Lockheed ADP on designing and building a sub-scale demonstrator for a novel VTOL UAS system, which will fly vertically in 2012. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. Mr. Gibson is a Subject Matter Expert on Turboelectric Distributed Propulsion (TeDP) and participates in the NASA TeDP Workshops administered by Mr. Hyun Dae Kim, and he will be a panel member during a TeDP session at AIAA JPC 2012.
